The Biome Prepares to Welcome Its First Residents
15th July 2026
As the Biome moves closer to welcoming its first residents, Project REPAIR team members Blanche Cameron (UCL) and Martyna Surma (Swansea University) visited the development on the 13th July to see the progress being made and reflect on how the vision for biophilic living is becoming a reality.
From the carefully crafted entrance gates to the light-filled apartments, green roofs and balcony gardens, the visit highlighted the attention given to creating homes that strengthen people's connection with nature. These features reflect the shared ambition of social housing provider Codi and developer Hacer to embed biophilic design throughout the development.
The visit also supported REPAIR's ongoing research into bringing the Biome into being. Blanche and Martyna are exploring the opportunities and challenges involved in designing, constructing and caring for a biophilic development, with the aim of identifying lessons that can inform future retrofit projects and the wider adoption of nature-based solutions.
As the Biome enters its next phase, Project REPAIR will continue working alongside partners to understand not only how the building performs, but also how people experience living, working and interacting within this unique environment. The insights gained will help inform future approaches to climate adaptation, healthier neighbourhoods and biophilic living in Swansea and beyond.
